What We Do

Programs & Services for Formerly Incarcerated Fathers

A Safe Place to Rebuild, Reconnect, and Persevere

At Take A Step Forward, we believe that returning home after incarceration should be an opportunity for growth, healing, and a new beginning—not a return to the circumstances that may have contributed to incarceration in the first place.

We are currently in the process of establishing our halfway house, designed to provide previously incarcerated fathers with a safe, supportive environment as they transition back into their communities. Our goal is to create more than a place to stay—we are building a community where fathers can regain stability, strengthen their relationships, develop life skills, and work toward a brighter future for themselves and their children.

Supporting Fathers Through Every Step

Our programs and services will be centered around the unique needs of fathers navigating reentry. We aim to provide structure, accountability, encouragement, and practical resources that help residents move forward with confidence and purpose.

Planned services and supports include:

  • Safe and Stable Housing
A structured living environment where fathers can focus on rebuilding their lives in a supportive and respectful setting.
  • 24/7 Staffing & Support
Around-the-clock staff presence to promote safety, accountability, stability, and access to support when residents need it.
  • Counseling & Mental Health Support
Access to counseling and supportive services designed to help residents address emotional well-being, past experiences, family relationships, and the challenges of reentry.
  • Family Reunification & Fatherhood Support
Resources and guidance to help fathers rebuild trust, strengthen communication, and reconnect with their children and families.
  • Nutrition & Wellness
Access to nutritious meals, healthy living resources, and education that promote physical and emotional well-being.
  • Life Skills & Independent Living
Support with essential skills such as budgeting, time management, household responsibilities, communication, and personal accountability.
  • Employment & Career Readiness
Assistance with job readiness, resume development, employment resources, and building the skills necessary to pursue meaningful and sustainable employment.
  • Education & Personal Development
Opportunities to pursue education, vocational training, certifications, and personal development goals that support long-term independence.
  • Community Reintegration
Guidance and resources to help residents navigate the transition back into their communities, establish positive support systems, and build a sense of belonging.
  • Substance-Free & Accountable Living
A structured environment that encourages healthy choices, personal responsibility, and continued progress toward stability.

  • More Than Reentry—A Path Forward
    More Than Reentry—A Path Forward

We understand that successful reentry is about more than completing a sentence. It is about rebuilding relationships, restoring confidence, developing stability, and creating opportunities for a different future.

Through our halfway house and future programs, Take A Step Forward is committed to helping fathers reconnect, rebuild, and persevere—while creating stronger families and healthier communities along the way.

Our work is just beginning, and we are committed to building a program that meets fathers where they are while giving them the support and resources they need to take their next step forward.
